Annual Awards

Directions for Nomination


Nominators should submit the appropriate Google form. In a paragraph, the nominator should detail how the nominee meets the criteria for that award. Each selected recipient will be recognized at the annual GOSS conference, receiving a certificate and $100 stipend.

Nominate Someone for an Award

Outstanding Individual Contribution to GOSS

Purpose of award

This award recognizes long-term contribution of service to the Association by a GOSS member.


Criteria for evaluation

  • Length and diverse nature of service to GOSS
  • Recognition by peers of contribution to GOSS
  • Member of GOSS



Outstanding Service in Student Success

Purpose of award

This award recognizes long-term service in the field of Student Success by a GOSS member.


Criteria for evaluation

  • Nominee will have spent at least five years serving students through teaching and/or administration and/or student support services
  • Nominee’s record of service and recognition by others
  • Member of GOSS

Excellence in Professional Development

Purpose of award

This award recognizes exceptional professionals in the field of Student Success. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a professional development project that would positively impact student success.


Criteria for evaluation

  • At least one year as a GOSS member
  • At least one year as an educator, staff, or administrator in higher education
  • Current employment as an educator, staff or administrator in higher education
  • Description of a professional development project in the area of individual, departmental, or institutional growth, instructional design, or research/evaluation and how that project will contribute to professional development for the nominee, the nominee’s department, the nominee’s institution, and to the field of Student Success


Outstanding Alumnus of a Developmental Education Program, Any Field

Purpose of award  


This award recognizes an alumnus of a Developmental Education program who has distinguished himself or herself in a career other than education or another area.


Criteria for evaluation

Participation in at least one of the following developmental activities:

  • Completion of developmental coursework
  • TRIO Upward Bound
  • TRIO Student Support Services
  • Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Program
  • High school-to-college bridge program
  • Special admissions program
  • Enrollment in developmental classes (e.g., mathematics, reading, study skills, writing)



Outstanding Alumnus of a Developmental Education Program, Career in Education Field

  Purpose of award 

This award recognizes an alumnus of Developmental Education who has distinguished himself or herself in an educational career.


Criteria for evaluation

Participation in at least one of the following developmental activities:

  • Completion of developmental coursework
